wannabepicker |
After years of being a 'closet picker,' not being to find a jam I can fit into (most are way beyond me, or with guitarists who don't want to play much BG), I finally played my first time in front of an audience.
I was persuaded by our church youth choir director, real hottie that I just happened to be married to, to join them and come up with some kind of arrangement for Gimme Oil in My Lamp. I used the melody from the Parking Lot Pickers book, and wrapped some rolls, pull offs and pinches around it. This is something I would not have thought I could have done even just 3 months ago.
It was fun. I made a lot of mistakes, and I'm sure my timing was bad and my backup (just vamping) had all kinds of holes in it, as I know I missed some notes and at least one chord change.
But I want to do it again. And I think I'll get the chance soon.
Thanks to all who read this blog, which is not done regularly ... I appreciate the support.

I used to be a professional photographer and now I'm a college English professor. I write for Bluegrass Unlimited and for Fiddler Magazine. Took quite a bit of time off, first for graduate school, and then had to have a liver transplant.
